I love beautiful, rich, exotic skin. It is a pleasure to work with and always presents a very unique challenge. The world is conditioned to outine in black or very dark colors and this effect is lost on dark skin. White is an incredible accent color when working with ethnic skin. I feel that the strongest accent colors are black, white, red, purple, etc......actually all colors have their place and when you achieve the strongest contrast in color you get the nicest effects. When I work with this kind of skin I may outline in a dark color but will always fininsh with stong white highlights. Dark is to light what light is to dark.
Painting eyes on eyes can be "creepy cool". Again, boy designs can be so fun and putting that added twist of painting false eyes can really bump up your art to another level. This can also be done with any design but here I will show this technique with a Skeleton face, a Zombie type face and the every popular Kitty Cat!!!!!. When you do this make sure you work with the creases in the eye, follow the paint always and let things dry very well before you say "open".
All the little boys want to be a super hero or as I normally say boys want to be a bug of somekind or very scary!!!! For some of us, the girls that love to paint them, painting boy designs can be challenging but fun. One of the best classes I ever took was from the Wolfe Brothers, Nick and Brian. They totally teach you facial structure and how to work with that in creating an "ugly" look and how accentuate the negative to get that effect. Working your 3-D into these designs will bump up your work and give a more realistic feel to that very extreme design, which any boy will think is wonderful. So don't be afraid to ugly up those beautiful boys, they will love you for it!!!!
Less is sometimes more and that holds true in face painting as well...one of the more common distractions I see other painters do is to "over do". It is important to begin working but also good to know when to stop and it is your art and you definitely say when! In this design I hoped to demonstrate how you can make an impressive smaller design that can maintain a high quality and make you money......this design only took me 3 minutes from start to finish. Enjoy....and get out of that box!!!!!
I have recently discovered the wonderful world of prosthetics and have gone a little nuts with that. My friend Kristal White recenly turned me onto Gold Leaf, a product that is used mostly in crafting but can produce a highly visual effect and texturizes your art. The one thing that is hard to achieve in face and body art is texture because the face is not flat and moves so it has a hard time hanging on to any type of texture. The gold leaf is applied with a safe body glue and can be place anywhere. I also glued the facric with the same glue to create an even more visual effect.... I really liked the outocme.
